White House Security Threat: Secret Service Takes Action

United States: The U.S. Secret Service initiated a shooting following an armed confrontation with a man who now remains in hospital care within the area, according to their statement Sunday morning.
The White House was not protected by President Donald Trump as he remained at his Florida residence during his weekend stay.
Armed Man Confronted Near White House
Law enforcement, due to a suicide warning, advised Secret Service personnel on Saturday that a man from Indiana was potentially traveling to Washington. The person’s vehicle was discovered within one block of the White House, according to the statement provided by the Secret Service, as reported by Reuters.
The Secret Service officers witnessed a gunman produce a weapon when they approached his position and then discharged their firearms shortly after midnight local time.
Suspect Hospitalized, No Officers Injured
The statement explained that the man underwent medical care at a nearby hospital, but undisclosed information was still available about his health status. Secret Service staff escaped unharmed throughout the incident.

Washington’s Metropolitan Police established an internal affairs investigation into the incident, according to statements, but officials refused to provide additional details.
Past Security Breaches Near the White House
In recent years, Secret Service officers have discharged their weapons multiple times against men carrying weapons who approached the White House security perimeter. A key case occurred in 2016 at the White House security gate where a gunman brandished his handgun.
A rented truck attempted to breach White House security barriers but failed when the 20-year-old Indian immigrant Sai Varshith Kandula withstood the barriers in 2023, as reported by Reuters.
In July, Trump barely escaped death after a Pennsylvania gunman fired at him at a campaign rally, which resulted in an ear wound. A Secret Service investigation revealed both poor communication pathways and inadequate attention by security staff allowed an attempted near-attack to occur.
