Trump’s Strong Position: Can Harris Close the Gap?

United States: Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris move into the last weeks of the campaign closely matched, and, as they prepare for only one debate on Tuesday, the vice-presidential nominee has a substantial number of voters who say they are not yet familiar with her.
As reported by Nytimes, a national survey of likely voters conducted for The New York Times and Siena College showed Mr. Trump leading Ms. Harris by 48 percent to 47 percent within a 3-point margin of error, and close to trends in a similar poll taken by the Times/Siena just before the president decided not to seek re-election in July.
While Mr. Trump might not have had the best month since the president’s exit and during the burst of energy that Ms. Harris has given the Democrats, the survey shows that his backing is truly quite steadfast.
These findings are comparable to polls in the seven swing states that will determine the presidential election, in which Ms. Harris is either tied with or slightly ahead of Mr. Trump, says the New York Times. Together, they depict a competitive contest which is still within any of the candidates’ chances to either victory or defeat.
Less than nine weeks are left in the shortest election in the history of the United States’ presidents. Again, there is little chance for either candidate to change the voters’ mind however for Mr. Trump, the voters’ stand is already set in concrete. Many people and audiences have not been introduced to Ms. Harris to date.

In that sense, the new poll raises the stakes and possible benefits, especially for Ms. Harris, on Tuesday night when she and Mr. Trump will clash on ABC News. The survey also revealed that 28 % of the likely voters had a feeling that they required more information about Ms. Harris unlike 9% who seemed to think the same about Mr. Trump.
As the reports mentioned by Nytimes, in that sense the new poll underscores the risks and the potential rewards which are particularly facing Ms. Harris on Tuesday night and when she and Mr. Trump will face off on the ABC news channel, So this particular survey found that there 28 percent of likely voters said that they felt that they needed to know more about Ms. Harris and while only 9 percent of said they needed to know more about the Mr. Trump.
