Storm ‘Sara’ Strengthens—Florida and the U.S. on High Alert!

United States: A storm system named “Sara” is somehow expected to form soon in the Caribbean, and it could impact the United States later in coming time. Right now, it’s hard to say exactly where the storm will go because it doesn’t have a clear center yet. However, places like Jamaica, Cuba, Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, and Florida could be in its path. The storm could get much stronger this weekend, and we’ll know more about its direction soon.
In the United States, there has been only four recorded November hurricanes over 170 years of record keeping and the Hurricanes could be repeated. Sara would be the 19th storm of the Atlantic hurricane season and that particular season has really intensified over the recent weeks. The latest system came after Rafael that hit western Cuba last week and developed into a category three hurricane, the strongest November hurricane in Gulf of Mexico record.
Where is the disturbance now?
Chunks of fresh thunderstorms were for instance seen south of Jamaica on Wednesday morning. Tuesday’s showers and thunderstorm had formed a cluster of storms – one of the prerequisites of formation of a tropical cyclone.
For the storm to “develop”, meaning it forms into a tropical depression, it needs circulation and sufficient thunderstorm. That would be before the formation of a named storm. The winds are now below the 39-mph expected to be considered as a tropical storm.
Some things to understand about impacts in the Caribbean.
However, over the following few days there appears to be slight intensification, it may even attain hurricane status by the weekend. It should remain in western Caribbean; there is a sort of ’empty space’ of high pressure to the northeast which is pinning the storm eastward.
This is not good news for a country like Honduras where the next several days are expected to bring strong precipitation and possible severe flooding lasting through the end of the week, or possibly longer, particularly in the eastern districts.
After that, the system is likely to start tracking northwestward. The weak end may shift west-northwest into the Yucatán Peninsula where it could bring rain and gusty winds to Belize and eastern Mexico toward the end of this weekend /start of next week.
