United States: Millions of people in the Great Lakes and southern Appalachians are under winter weather warnings. Snow and rain are causing big problems for travel, especially after the holidays. Some areas in New York have already received nearly 5 feet of snow, and Erie, Pennsylvania, has gotten 30 inches of snow since the storm started. The bad weather is expected to last for most of the week. 

And for many, there is no relief from the winter onslaught: warnings are still in place for Cleveland, as well as Erie, Pennsylvania — lake-effect snow in areas close to the downwind shores of Lake Erie is expected to continue at least through Wednesday. 

In other areas, winter storm warnings and advisories are now out for both peninsulas of Michigan, as well as Syracuse, New York.

As reported by the NBC News, potential problem for one to two inches of snow per hour Monday in affected areas inclusive of reduction in visibility. The National Weather Service said temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees below average in parts of the Plains, to the Ohio Valley, and the mid-Atlantic. 

Severe weather struck the northern states on Sunday, as major cities in the northern Plains, the Midwest and the Great Lakes were threatened by dangerous conditions during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year. 

A ban on buses, commercial trucks, and tractor-trailer trucks was lifted at 2 a.m. ET, according to New York Governor Kathy Hochul on X.

The State police in lifesaving rescue 

The journalist covering on the case has presented a story of a 64-year-old woman who had set off for a heart transplant operation but had to be rescued by New York State Troopers after getting stuck on a snowy highway. He was taking his wife to Rochester to Cleveland for the procedure – her heart, kept going the battery, powered pump. The husband was able to call a nurse in Cleveland who escalated the matter to state police. 

The troopers carried her to a nearby hospital before she was airlifted to Cleveland for the transplant. 

New York State Police said in a statement, “The actions of the Troopers, medical staff and the transportation teams are the examples of the importance of teamwork and thinking on the feet as quick decision making can mean the difference between life and death especially in severe weather.” 

During this winter weather from thanksgiving through Sunday and the agency said it assisted 111 disabled vehicles, and also investigated 82 property collisions and seven personal injury collisions,
