United States: This January is also here expected to be the coldest in almost past 10 years, as the polar vortex moves south across the eastern United States. After a warmer end to the year, the cold temperatures will surprise many. Meteorologists say this January could be as cold as 2014, with very cold weather ahead.

Thursday will mark the start of the gradual cooling off in temperatures stretching from the Rockies to the East Coast, albeit a more serious drop will commence a week to two weeks from now.

this plunge will result to wind chills across the Mid-west going below zero, “exceptionally cold” into the 20 degrees below average in some parts of the country, as well as freezing conditions that would extend as far south as the gulf coast & even Florida, however this is still early for an exact temperature report.

Fox Weather also warned that there is “a pretty good chance that this vortex will be accompanied by ‘significant winter storms.’

As reported by the New York Post, “The prime window for these winter storms would be the middle to end of next week,” they said, and that southeast could see snow or ice.

Unlike most of the polar vortex forecasts, which is usually unpredictable, Fox Weather said this round of cold is unique.

These are actually very, very highly favorable forecasts indeed. Just about all of the weather models are shouting to us that this very cold air is coming,” the meteorologist added.

Again, the cold is anticipated to stretch to the end of January, with some kind of reprieve in February.

Such breaks happen when the atmospheric pressure systems that confine the cold air over the North Pole – the polar vortex – dissipate and the cold air mass makes a deep incursion with the vortex.

This means, that arctic air itself is blowing on the US, pressure changes and motion of the place where the polar vortex produces strong and gusty winds and forms ideal conditions for Winter.

Cold dissipates as soon as the Cyclogenesis restores the vortex and pushes the cold air back to Arctic.

January’s freeze-out is in contrast to December that began cold but ended warmer than normal in most of the country.
