No Indictment for Georgia Deputy in Deadly Shooting 

United States: Local prosecutors have concluded that Camden County Sheriff’s Deputy Buck Aldridge acted within reasonable standards during the fatal shooting of Leonard Allan Cure, 53, and will not face criminal charges. District Attorney Keith Higgins from the Brunswick Judicial District stated that Aldridge’s use of force was “objectively reasonable,” ruling out any criminal prosecution, as reported by Reuters. 

Details of the Traffic Stop 

Deputy Aldridge conducted the traffic stop on Cure on Interstate 95 near the Florida border during October 2023 because Cure reportedly reached speeds exceeding 100 mph while traveling in a zone limited to 70 mph. GBI documents reveal the deputy arrested Cure then the officer received an assault from Cure while trying to make the arrest. The official incident report shows Aldridge deployed a Taser then used a baton followed by a weapon discharge to control Cure.

District Attorney Higgins declared the used force appropriate explaining “The pursuit of criminal charges, therefore, is not warranted.” Public opposition continues to increase over the court’s decision.
