United States: On Thursday, at least 28 Palestinians, including children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a shelter in the northern Gaza Strip. A health official reported that many others were injured and described the situation as very serious, saying it felt like a “massacre.” The official also mentioned that there was no water to put out the fires caused by the strike. Israel claimed the attack was aimed at militants in the area.

In its statement, the Israeli military urged that the strike was aimed at Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants who had used the Abu Hussein School in Jabalia, a facility that had been hosting displaced civilians.

It said scores of militants were in the compound during the attack and listed the names of at least 12 of them which could not be independently confirmed by Reuters.

People in Jabalia, the largest camp in northern Gaza, said that Israeli forces targeted others by bombing from the sky and from tanks, as well as setting off bombs inside homes and buildings from a distance.

It has been heavily targeted by the IDF, which claims it has been targeting the remnants of Hamas fighters after two weeks hunting them down in the area intending to relaunch their lethal attacks.

People stated that ISF sealed all roads between BOC and the three northern Strip communities of Beit Hanoun, Jabalia and Beit Lahiya, so residents could move between them only if they were fleeing towards IDF shelters and thus out of the trio of threatened towns.

It is funny; we have described our send off and we are not vacating Jabalia, as said one resident in a chat app to Reuters.

The occupation (Israel) is punishing us for not leaving our houses in the early days of the war, and we are not going now either.” They are blowing up houses, and roads and starving us but we die once and we don’t lose our pride,” the father of four said he did not want to be named fearing Israeli revenge.

The Israeli military reported on Thursday many weapons were captured in the area including some weapons cached in a school and claimed that scores of militants have been killed in strikes and during house to house fighting as the troops seek to eliminate Hamas fighters in the alleys.
