Closer Race in Florida: Trump’s Lead Over Harris Heats Up Election Game
Trump’s lead over Harris in Florida is smaller than expected, signalling a closer race and greater Democratic enthusiasm than recent polls suggested.

United States: The strong support for Republicans in Florida might not be as big as it seemed before. A new poll shows that Vice President Kamala Harris is close to catching up with former President Donald Trump in Florida.
The survey, which included 500 voters, suggests that the race in Florida is tighter than expected.
Hereby, Trump leads Harris by almost 5 percent the points in the survey but that’s closer than other recent polls and much less than the Gov. DeSantis and 19 points blowouts in year 2022.
Its’s also within the poll’s 4.4 percent margin of the error and another sign of the enthusiasm Harris has already generated the nationwide within the Democratic Party since she entered the race.
Support Breakdown
As reported by USA Today, also Trump received the support of 47 percent of those in the USA Today’s Florida survey and comparatively with 42 percent for Harris and almost 5 percent for the independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.and with the 5 percent of undecided or refusing to disclose their choice and the poll was conducted by the phone from Aug 7 to Aug 11.
Florida’s Battleground Status
Once also viewed as the nation’s largest swing that state and fiercely contested during presidential elections, Florida’ s battleground status increasingly has been in the doubt after the Trump bested President Joe Biden by almost 3.3 percentage points in the year 2022 and DeSantis dominated the two years later and the Democrats fell dramatically behind the Republicans in the voter registration.
Expert Insight
Florida now has 1 million more registered Republicans than Democrats, a tough hurdle for any Democratic candidate to overcome.
“Given those circumstances I was surprised that Harris is within striking distance being only 5 points down,” said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center.
Flashing yellow:
While not only a exactly flashing red warning light for Trump and survey is a caution sign for anyone who thinks is the race that is sure to be blowout in Florida.
“What was an easy drive through the Sunshine State is drive with caution,” he said, adding that Harris is “still the underdog, but she’s a little bit closer than people might expect.”
Harris vs. Biden and Trump
Kamala Harris is slightly more liked than Joe Biden in Florida, with 44% of voters viewing her favourably compared to Biden’s 39%. However, this difference is small and within the poll’s margin of error. Since taking over for Biden, Harris has energized Democrats, raising a lot of money and attracting large crowds.
Donald Trump has faced trouble defining his new opponent and has made personal attacks that some see as unhelpful. He received backlash for comments questioning Harris’s racial identity, which upset many Black voters in Florida.
Trump, however, is viewed more favourably than both Harris and Biden in Florida, with a 50% approval rating. He is losing independent voters by 7 points in a recent survey, compared to losing by 11 points to Biden in 2020, though he still won Florida then
