Biden’s Strong Words for Trump’s Latino Remarks

United States: Trump made an example out of the Puerto Rico president when a comedian said it was a floating island of garbage on Sunday night, Biden responded. But his cringing defense of the self-governing American territory and the swing vote population in the territory’s diaspora on the US mainland raised a new political storm and overshadowed the closing attack speech by Vice Kamala President Harris behind the White House lectern on Tuesday night.
As reported by the CNN, “And just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico ‘a floating island of garbage.’ Well, let me tell you something … It’s just not the Puerto Rican I know or the Puerto Rico where I am – in my home state of Delaware – they are good decent honorable people,” Biden said during a virtual remark on a Voto Latino get-out-the-vote call to help Harris.
The only garbage out there that I can see is those who support him,” Biden said before taking a short break in his speech. “He, him demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and it’s un-American.
”The White House immediately sought to clarify the president’s comments, with spokesman Andrew Bates noting that the “hateful rhetoric” being denounced was at Trump’s rally in New York. He said that Biden had actually said this: “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporter’s – his – his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.”
And in a more indication that the White House sees the political risks of the episode, Biden went on to post about it on twitter.
This morning, in the course of an exceedingly cruel and ignorant comment regarding Puerto Rico Trump’s supporter at his rally in Madison Square Garden spoke garbage is the only word I could use. It is completely reprehensible that he demonizes Latinos.
