Ahead of the Election: Global Opinions on U.S. Leadership

United States: As the U.S. election unfolds, many people in Latin America believe that Donald Trump is the best choice to help keep America’s economy strong and influential. Joseph Humire, an expert on Latin America, shared that many hope Trump will win on November 5.
According to Humire, the policy of the Biden administration to Latin America has made it turn into “the worst that I’ve seen.”
“The last four years the region has gone into a very difficult direction,” he said. The inflation of food prices is very high. What I fully agree is the fact that crime and violence are highly organized. And, you know, little by little, they are prejudicing their democratic behaviors. So there is a big problem with democracy and democracy is in retreat in the region.”
As reported by the Foxnews, Mexico’s military takes possession of weapons from local police in Michoacan, a cartel stronghold as shootout, attacks intensify.
As for Humire, Latin Americans think if Biden VP Kamala Harris were to be elected, she would continue with Biden’s policies and the consequent deterioration and stagnation of the economy in the continent.
On the other hand, Humire stated that the Latin American population found Trump as a man who was associated with a time that they were richer, and they look forward to when America with invest in their continent again and the economy is glowing.
These people think that Trump proposes to minimize dependence of the USA on China to increase investment in Latin America Most countries in Latin America are keen to attract investment from the United States, he said.
If Kamala Harris wins, you may get a lot of indifferent stances, but you’ll also get people like, ‘The United States is good and pretty much finished.’ On the other hand, if Trump is elected you are going to see a reaction similar to this one throughout Latin America.
And from the leaders of the government, but I feel there will be so much excitement from the people.”

He also mentioned that a majority of the politicos are keenly observing the U.S. election as they hope that the current conservative, populist movement in South America is given a boost by it.
As United States influence in Latin America has waned and that vacuum has been filled by Russia, China and Iran, which has had a degrading effect on the democracy in the region, Humire said.
Argentine President Javier Milei serves as an example of a recently arisen populist leader who has said he was inspired by the Trump’s success in the United States Humire believes that a Trump victory on Election Night could lead to a slate of additional leaders rising across the Latin America and mainly in the countries close to Argentina such as Chile and Colombia.
As for the cartels, Humire said a Harris victory would essentially mean the business as usual.
